Celtics star Jayson Tatum has heaped much praise in his short NBA career, but he wants more from himself. The two-time all-star spoke with the media on the set of the NBA Lane commercial that was released last week. During his discussions, he opened up about his participation in the Summer Olympics and what he expects from himself moving forward.

“I just got to be better. I have to elevate my level from being one of the top 10 to 15 players to a top-5 player. I have to try to make everyone else around me better.” Jayson Tatum

Tatum also talked about his opportunities to play on the international stage while competing in team USA practice with his NBA counterparts. He believes that he’ll carry what he learned in that time over into his play with the Celtics. The fifth-year man hopes to pick up where he left off from the Olympics into the new season. With health appearing to become an issue for Boston already, it seems he’ll have to carry a significant load to start the year.

Previewing the 2021-22 Boston Celtics

The Celtics went into a brief period of transition this past offseason. With changes in the executive branch and coaching staff, the team looks to shift momentum this year. In addition, the changes to the roster ought to redefine roles for most players on board.

As Brad Stevens took over Basketball operations, he hastily moved to reshape his team. He brought Al Horford back into the fold, acquired Josh Richardson from Dallas, and signed Dennis Schroder to help fill the void left by Kemba Walker’s departure. Other supplementary additions include that of Juancho Hernangomez, Bruno Fernando, and the returning Enes Kanter.

Along with the remaining core of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, the Celtics hope that the moves they made will allow them to jump back atop the NBA standings. They finished in seventh place last year, bowing out in the first round of the 2021 playoffs.
