Brock Purdy Joins Justin Herbert In Exclusive Rookie Club
Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

The emergence of San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy over the last several weeks has been one of the best stories in the NFL this season.

Despite being the last player chosen in the 2022 draft, he has taken the league by storm ever since replacing the injured Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 13 while extending the 49ers’ winning streak to 10 games.

In those six games, Purdy has put up 1,308 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and a stellar 112.0 passer rating while completing 68.32 percent of his passes.

He has thrown at least two touchdown passes in each of those six contests, which places him in an exclusive club with just Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert as the only rookies to ever achieve the feat.

Herbert did so in seven consecutive games back in 2020, and in doing so, he quickly became regarded as the NFL’s newest elite QB.

Purdy may not have proven he’s elite yet, but if he keeps up this type of production in the playoffs while getting the 49ers to the Super Bowl, that may be enough to get him into that category, at least in the court of public opinion.

With its 38-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals, a game in which Purdy has three touchdown passes, San Francisco claimed the second seed in the NFC, which will mean it will host the Seattle Seahawks in the wild-card round of the postseason.

It will be the first step toward what the Niners hope is a successful run to its sixth world championship in the coming weeks.
