Evan Williams has gotten off to a fast start, as a breakout star in the Packers’ secondary.
Williams, 24, pulled down a pivotal interception against the Detroit Lions and helped provide blanket coverage in the Packers’ victory over the Washington Commanders, all but shutting down Jayden Daniels and one of the game’s most prolific passing attacks in Week 2 of the season.
However, Williams says that even amid an unbeaten start to a season where the Packers have assumed the mantle of a team to beat in the NFC, there isn’t any resting on any laurels in Green Bay.
“We all know there is going to be greater adversity down the road,” Williams told reporters. “We’ve just got to prepare like we’re the hungriest team in the nation.”
Through the season’s first two weeks, the Packers are the NFL’s third-rated defense, allowing just 189.5 yards per game. Perhaps more importantly, only the Rams, Falcons, and Chargers are surrendering more than the 15.5 points per game that Packers gave up against the Lions and Commanders, who each made the postseason in 2024.
Even amid a strong start to the season, the Packers’ defense isn’t losing sight of its far loftier goals.
“One of our sayings is don’t let a victory mask your problems,” Williams explained. “That’s definitely true of this team. We do a lot of things great, but there are a bunch of things we can improve on, it’s just about keeping going 1-0.”
