Atlanta Falcons first-round pick James Pearce is facing significant legal trouble after yesterday’s arrest. According to reports across the league, the pass rusher is currently facing two counts of aggravated battery and assault with a deadly weapon, one count of aggravated stalking, and one count of fleeing or eluding police with lights or sirens. Further reports allege that Pearce stalked WNBA player Rickea Jackson and drove his car into hers to prevent her from reaching the police. As if that wasn’t enough, additional reports indicate Pearce intentionally drove at a police officer and hit the cop in the knees while trying to get away.

While it’s still too early in the legal process to know what will happen with James Pearce, it’s safe to assume he is in serious trouble. The pass rusher entered the NFL with character issues, but the Falcons decided to overlook the concerns and select him in the first round. This proved to be the wrong decision, as Atlanta clearly didn’t listen closely to comments from Pearce’s old high school teammate.

In a now-deleted post, one of Pearce’s old teammates tweeted about his character concerns prior to the 2025 NFL Draft. “These are not made up character concerns, by the way,” the post reads. “I went to high school with this n**ga he is actually crazy. He had the worst anger issues ever.”

James Pearce’s High School Teammate Warned Falcons About Attitude Issues Before Arrest

The Falcons normally stay away from players with glaring character concerns, but James Pearce was the exception to the rule. For a while, this appeared to be a smart decision, as Pearce had a strong rookie season. Appearing in all 17 games, the first-round pick finished his inaugural campaign with 10.5 sacks, 26 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss, 16 quarterback hits, and one forced fumble. He was a Defensive Rookie of the Year finalist and appeared to have a bright future.

However, that future is all but gone. Again, it’s too early to know for sure what will happen with James Pearce, but given the severity of the charges, it’s hard to imagine him playing football for quite some time. Frankly, his NFL career is probably the least of his worries.
