It’s been over a year since Israel and Palestine got into a war. The bloody conflict has left about 40,000 Palestinians dead, and millions injured and misplaced. As the world watches the war in horror, many have come forward to raise their voice against Israel’s war crimes and its lack of heed to calls for even humanitarian aid, let alone a ceasefire.
In a powerful statement that resonated with fans worldwide, Andrew Garfield expressed his support for Gaza on humanitarian grounds. The ‘Spiderman‘ actor spoke passionately about the situation there and used his platform to raise awareness of the plight of the natives in Palestine.
Andrew Garfield was recently promoting his romantic drama ‘We live in time’ with his co-star Florence Pugh during a recent conversation with Josh Horowitz on his podcast ‘Happy Sad Confused’. When asked a question about any of his personal needs, the actor urged people to focus on the sufferings of the people of Palestine.
“You know what, out of everyone in the world, I don’t need — I’m so happy,” Garfield said. “Like, we should be putting our energy toward something that actually matters, you know? Yeah, maybe the lives of, I don’t know, Palestinians in Gaza right now. Maybe that’s where we put our hearts and our energy,” he added.
The actor continued, “And anyone suffering, anyone oppressed — anyone that is suffering under the weight of the horrors of our world right now. Anyone who doesn’t have a choice in, you know, living lives of dignity. Yeah — that’s where our energy should be going right now.”
Andrew Garfield is not the only person from Hollywood who has raised his voice against Israel’s atrocities. Palestinian American model sister duo Bella Hadid and Gigi Hadid have been vocal about it since the war started as it’s also the homeland of their ancestors.
Bella Hadid even took legal action against Adidas for following a controversial campaign. Moreover, Marvel actor Mark Ruffalo, ‘Bridgerton‘ actress Nicola Coughlan, and ‘Wednesday’ actress Jenna Ortega have also raised their voices in support of the people of Palestine.
