Marvel has created some pretty good superheroes over the years. But, we cannot deny the credit they deserve for the supervillains they have made. Sure, most of them might not be as charming and good-looking as the heroes, but the power they hold is impeccable. Each new franchise gives us a supervillain that is just as memorable. Marvel certainly makes villains that usually require more than one superhero to defeat.
A lot of these supervillains have already made their way onto the big screens like Loki, and Gorr the God Butcher. And yes, of course, we didn’t forget Thanos. However, there are so many others just as amazing and powerful characters that are yet to make it into the MCU. So fasten up your belt, people, because you are in for a long ride.
Loki is one of the familiar villains for MCU fans. He is the brother of mighty Thor. Loki has the ability to teleport, shapeshift, and influence the weak-minded to his will. He now is more of an anti-hero personality after he got his own series. Tom Hiddleston seems to bring out the good in the villainous character.
Dr. Franklin Hall, aka Graviton, is a physicist who gains the ability to control gravity on an almost cosmic scale after a lab accident. He’s often portrayed as unstable and power-hungry, making him one of the most dangerous threats in Marvel Comics. Graviton has fought the Avengers and caused entire cities to levitate and collapse. His control over gravity allows him to fly, create force fields, and crush enemies with crushing pressure. Despite limited exposure in live-action (he appeared in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).
Ultron is a villain with an A.I. genius-level intellect. He was originally designed to be part of a program created by both Tony Stark and Bruce Banner. However, his original programming directive, which was to protect Earth from all domestic and extraterrestrial threats, got corrupted because of the Mind Stone. He became almost indestructible and the Avengers had to unite to fight this enemy.
A powerful sorceress drawn from Arthurian legend, Morgan le Fay blends myth and magic with Marvel’s multiverse. She has immense magical ability, often rivaling Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch, and is a master manipulator, using ancient artifacts and forbidden spells to achieve her goals. Morgan le Fay has tangled with the Avengers, Doctor Doom, and even Spider-Woman, often trying to reshape reality to fit her magical rule. She appeared briefly in Runaways, but her true potential as a mystical powerhouse has yet to be explored on a big scale.
He holds the ability to manipulate metal however he wants. His powers can even turn Avengers into nothing but a metal ball. He is indeed scary. The only thing that keeps him from wreaking havoc in this world is his morals. Although he doesn’t really like humans and thinks that they need to pay for prejudice against mutants, he doesn’t want the world to end.
Madelyne Pryor is a clone of Jean Grey created by Mister Sinister. Originally created to seduce Cyclops and bear a powerful mutant child, she eventually descends into madness after learning of her origins. Becoming the Goblin Queen, she unleashes demonic forces during the Inferno crossover event. She is a tragic, unstable villain who is as emotionally complex as she is dangerous. Pryor is a reminder of how manipulation and betrayal can turn even the kindest souls into monsters.
Stryfe is a clone of Cable created by the villain Apocalypse in the future. He possesses all of Cable’s abilities (telepathy, telekinesis, and combat mastery) but none of his restraint. Raised in chaos and rejection, Stryfe becomes one of the most dangerous mutants in existence. He’s known for leading mutant terrorist groups like the Mutant Liberation Front and has orchestrated some of the most brutal attacks on both mutant and human populations. What makes him stand out is that he carries an enormous personal vendetta, not only against Cable but against the X-Men as a whole.
Nathaniel Essex, aka Mister Sinister, is one of the X-Men’s most enduring foes. A Victorian-era scientist obsessed with evolution and genetic perfection, he was transformed by Apocalypse into a nearly immortal being. Sinister is a geneticist of horrifying brilliance. He’s responsible for cloning Jean Grey, creating Cable, and engineering countless mutant experiments. With regenerative abilities, telepathy, telekinesis, and a genius mind that rivals even Reed Richards, Mister Sinister is a long-game villain.
Also known as En Sabah Nur, Apocalypse believes in the survival of the fittest and seeks to cleanse the world of weakness through war, death, and destruction. He possesses a terrifying combination of powers: immortality, shape-shifting, energy manipulation, and the ability to enhance other mutants into his Four Horsemen. He also has access to Celestial technology, making him a near-unstoppable force. Though he was briefly featured in X-Men: Apocalypse, people want him to get a proper, more terrifying MCU debut.
While the mainline Reed Richards is a genius who uses his intellect for good, the Maker is what happens when that same genius loses faith in humanity. With a rubber-like physiology and a mind sharper than any supercomputer, the Maker has no morals or empathy. His primary goal is to “fix” the multiverse, which usually means tearing it down and rebuilding it in his own terrifying image. His plans often span timelines, universes, and realities. Moreover, his ability to manipulate people and systems makes him a true existential threat to the Marvel Universe.
Ruler of the Negative Zone, Annihilus is a bug-like alien warlord obsessed with order, survival, and immortality. He holds the Cosmic Control Rod, a device that grants him nearly unlimited energy and the ability to regenerate from death. Annihilus became one of Marvel’s top-tier threats during the Annihilation storyline. He launched a devastating invasion across the universe that wiped out entire star systems. The fact that he nearly broke cosmic-level heroes like Nova, Silver Surfer, and even Thanos proves how lethal he is. With the Fantastic Four coming to the MCU, Annihilus might finally get his chance to shine.
He lived in the 30th century before he gained godlike powers and went back in time. In the 1970s, this Marvel villain was even capable of destroying the entire world with the snap of a finger. In The Korvac Saga, The Avengers battled him. They all lost, and Korvac killed every single one of them, although he undid the deaths later.
Mephisto is essentially Marvel’s version of the devil, and he rules a hell-like dimension filled with fire, torture, and endless suffering. First introduced in ‘Silver Surfer #3’, Mephisto is a manipulative and near-omnipotent being who feeds on souls and thrives on corruption. His abilities include shapeshifting, immortality, interdimensional travel, and reality manipulation. Moreover, one of his most infamous acts was erasing Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson’s marriage in ‘One More Day’ just to save Aunt May, a decision that forever changed Spider-Man’s timeline. The character was recently mentioned in ‘Agatha All Along’ for the first time.
Gorr the God Butcher recently made his big screen debut in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder‘. Like most iconic villains and even heroes in the MCU, Gorr has a tragic backstory. In the comics, Gorr started as a member of a society that worshipped the gods but never had one answer the prayers. When he lashed out, he was banished and ended up watching his wife and child die. He blamed the gods for the loss and made it his mission to destroy and kill all gods because he felt they cared about no one.
Jean Grey was exposed to lethal radiation, and thus she emerged as Phoenix, a physical form of the cosmic and otherworldly Phoenix Force. She is the most powerful mutant yet. However, she couldn’t get a hold of her immense powers, became mad, and wiped out all alien worlds by accident. Phoenix became an iconic character and a fan favorite who ended her own life to prevent more deaths.
Kang was a time traveler who conquered the world but went back in time to ensure it would happen regardless of the timeline. He was formed as a variant of Nathaniel Richards. Although he eventually learned of the existence of the Multiverse and met up with all his other variants. Along with other villainous variants, he set out to conquer the other universes, starting the first Multiversal War in the process.
Everyone knows Thanos by now, and it’s quite sensible to put him under the top 10 category. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe portrayal, Thanos is a survivor of a lost race who is determined to create the perfect balance in the universe. With the Infinity Gauntlet and all six stones, he became the most powerful being in the universe. We believe it is quite well-known what he did after that. Yes, he destroyed the world.
According to Marvel fandom, Onslaught was a sentient psionic entity created from the consciousness of two extremely powerful mutants: Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto. He easily killed the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Hulk, and more of the Marvel superheroes. He certainly is the force not to be reckoned with.
He is the god responsible for the existence of the symbiote. This is a villain who is even older than time itself and was drifting through the black in peace before the Celestials’ light woke him and sent him on a rampage. In the series ‘King In Black‘, he destroys the entire world in his rage with his own army of symbiotes. Not just that, it took all of Earth’s heroes, including intergalactic heroes such as the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Kree-Skrull alliance, to finally make him stop.
A cosmic entity of incomprehensible power, the Beyonder, made his debut in the ‘Secret Wars’. Originally described as being from a realm outside the known multiverse, the Beyonder once transported dozens of Marvel’s heroes and villains to Battleworld to force them to fight just to observe the nature of good versus evil. What sets the Beyonder apart is that he is essentially god-level. He can bend reality, teleport, manipulate time, and even alter the laws of physics on a whim. The only reason he hasn’t completely destroyed the multiverse is that he doesn’t fully understand human nature. Additionally, with Marvel’s upcoming ‘Secret Wars,’ the Beyonder could finally make his debut.
