Cowboys Sign Potential Steelers ILB Solution Rashaan Evans
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys have signed linebacker Rashaan Evans to their active roster after he played several games with the team while on the practice squad, the team announced on Saturday. Ian Rapoport revealed that multiple teams tried to sign Evans, but he did not want to leave Dallas and will stay with them. It is unclear if the Steelers were one of the teams that tried to land Evans following injuries to Kwon Alexander and Cole Holcomb.

The Steelers have watched Evans from afar for years, but he never became a Steeler throughout all that. Dallas is thin at inside linebacker, too, and they elevated him from the practice squad for the final time last week against the Giants this season. Now, he will join Dallas’ full-time roster and likely play significantly, too. The Cowboys lost Leighton Vander-Esch for the season with a neck injury.

With Evans now off the market, the reunion with Myles Jack seems likelier. Jack is still just 28 years old.  Jack un-retired earlier in the week and he cleared waivers on Friday after the Philadelphia Eagles released him on Thursday. Jack, who spent the 2022 season with Pittsburgh, was released by the Steelers in March. After being a free agent for most of the summer and contemplating leaving football for a trade, he signed with the Eagles on Aug. 6.

Jack lasted just a few weeks with the Eagles when he decided to retire from football on Aug. 20. When he did so, the Eagles put him on the reserve/retired list, retaining his rights. They decided to release him on Thursday, putting him through waivers. With Jack cleared, he is eligible to sign with any team.

That could lead him back to Pittsburgh, where he will roll forward with Mykal Walker, Elandon Roberts, Mark Robinson, and Tariq Carpenter. Those guys will try to fill the void left behind by unfortunate injuries at the position.
