While Weston McKennie fights hard in Qatar to help the United States qualify for the World Cup knockout stages, Spurs continue to work on signing him behind the scenes.

According to the latest report from Tuttosport (via Sport Witness), Juventus will have to sell some players before signing anyone, with the USA international being one of them.

The report claims that Tottenham and the midfielder’s entourage have been in contact and the talks ‘are increasing through intermediaries’.

It states that the talks with Spurs is ‘not surprising’ given that Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici are both big admirers of the midfielder.

Tottenham has been linked with the American midfielder for some time. The rumours began in January and continued into the summer, with reports claiming that Fabio Paratici was pushing for a transfer for the American. It was claimed that a fee of around £34 million would have sufficed to sign him at the time, but Juventus ultimately decided to keep him after new signing Paul Pogba suffered a serious injury.

Tottenham are also said to be interested in PSG’s Adrien Rabiot in addition to McKennie. The Frenchman, could be available for free at the end of the season unless his agent can reach an agreement with Juventus on a contract extension.

Former MLS star Herculez Gomez also recently admitted to ESPN that ‘Conte has been wanting’ Mckennie for quite some time and claimed that he is the type of player who is ‘made for the Premier League’.
